What it is

Run Performance is for people who want to become better runners, not simply cover a social route. Every Monday session has a specific physiological goal and a coach controlling the work, recovery and pace.

The training rotates through threshold intervals to help you hold speed for longer, VO₂ max work to raise your top end, race-pace sessions to build control under fatigue, and repeatable 3K tests to make progress visible.

You do not need to be fast. The coach sets effort, pace and volume for each runner, so newer runners and experienced racers can train together without anyone being left behind or held back.

What you get out of it

01

Hold pace longer

Threshold work teaches your body to sustain a stronger pace before fatigue takes over.

02

Raise your top end

Controlled VO₂ max intervals build the aerobic power that makes every other pace feel easier.

03

Run with control

Race-pace practice replaces guesswork with a repeatable feel for effort, rhythm and restraint.

04

Measure progress

Repeatable 3K testing gives you an honest benchmark without turning every session into a race.

05

Better technique

Coach feedback on posture, cadence and pacing helps you run more efficiently under fatigue.

06

Train with purpose

Every interval, recovery and progression has a reason, so your Monday miles move you forward.

It's for you if

  • You want to improve your running with a coach rather than guess your sessions
  • You are training for a 5K, 10K, half marathon or a stronger general engine
  • You are new to structured running and want each effort adapted to you
  • You already run but have stopped seeing progress from doing the same miles

Maybe not if

  • You only want a relaxed social jog with no coached work
  • You want every Monday to be an all-out race
  • You are currently injured and have not been cleared to return to running

Questions, answered

Is this a run club?

No. It is a coached performance session. You will still train alongside other runners, but every session has a planned outcome, structured work and direct coaching.

Do I need to be a fast runner?

No. Sessions are based on your current ability and effort. Distances, pace and repetitions can be scaled so everyone completes the same training goal at the right level.

What happens in bad weather or after dark?

We train outdoors through the seasons unless conditions are unsafe. Wear suitable layers; in darker months, bring high-visibility kit and a head torch.

Is it only for the London Landmarks Half?

No. That race is a current focus for some members, but the session develops running performance for any goal, from a first 5K to a faster half marathon.

Where and when is the session?

The regular session is Monday at 18:30 in Beacon Park, Lichfield. Check the live schedule before attending for the latest details.

What should I bring?

Running shoes, weather-appropriate clothing and water. During darker months, bring high-visibility clothing and a head torch.
