Functional Training in Lichfield
Functional training in Lichfield, full-body movement, mobility and athletic capacity that carries straight into everyday life. Carries, crawls, throws and jumps, coached in Beacon Park.
What it is
Functional Training is the class that fixes how you move. We coach the patterns most adults have lost (squatting properly, hinging without back pain, carrying load, getting up off the floor) and turn them into real athletic capability.
Sessions blend mobility, core control, plyometrics and loaded movement. It's the perfect bridge if bootcamp feels too chaotic and S&C feels too rigid, or as a third pillar alongside both.
Coached outdoors in Beacon Park, Lichfield. Scalable for anyone: desk worker, weekend runner, returning parent, ex-athlete.
What you get out of it
Move pain-free
Fix the stiffness and imbalances that have built up from sitting and stress.
Core that works
Real core strength from bracing, anti-rotation and carries, not endless crunches.
Power & speed
Jumps, throws and sprints rebuild athleticism most adults assume is gone.
Injury-proof joints
Controlled mobility loading makes knees, hips and shoulders more resilient.
Better balance
Single-leg, unstable and rotational work translates to everything you do.
Sport carryover
Run faster, hike further, play harder, and recover quicker.
A typical session
Mobility prep
Targeted joint and tissue work to open up the patterns the session will load.
Movement block
Crawls, carries, jumps, throws and unilateral work, coached and scaled to you.
Conditioning
Short, athletic finisher, sled drags, hill carries, sprints, to lock the work in.

Month 3+
Genuine athletic capability, power, balance and durability you can use anywhere.
It's for you if
- You're an ex-athlete who wants to feel like one again
- You sit at a desk and feel the cost of it
- You run, hike or play a sport and want to do it longer
- You want training that makes life easier, not harder
Maybe not if
- You only want max-effort lifting (try S&C)
- You only want flat-out conditioning (try Bootcamp)
- You won't engage with mobility work
Questions, answered
What's the difference between functional training and bootcamp?
Bootcamp is high-intensity conditioning. Functional Training is movement quality, mobility and athletic patterns. They complement each other, most members do both.
Will functional training help my back pain?
Often, yes. Strengthening the hinge, bracing the core properly and building hip and thoracic mobility addresses the root causes of most non-clinical back pain. We can't replace a physio if something's wrong, but for most stiff backs, this is the work.
Is it good for runners?
Excellent for runners. Single-leg strength, hip mobility and core control are exactly what reduce injury and improve pace.
Do I need to be fit to start?
No, this class is often where less-fit beginners feel most comfortable. The pace is more controlled than bootcamp.
Where is it held in Lichfield?
Beacon Park, same as our other outdoor classes. Free parking nearby and easy to reach from across Lichfield, Burntwood and Tamworth.
How often should I do it?
1-2 sessions a week alongside other training is plenty. Two functional sessions plus two strength or bootcamp sessions is a great weekly split.
